FAQs
I hope you find most information regarding the lessons on the lessons page, but here’s a few questions I get asked from time to time. If you have a question that isn’t covered please get in touch via the contact page.
Lessons
DO YOU OFFER HOME VISITS? No - All lessons take place at Orchard Percussion Studios.
ONLINE LESSONS? - I occasionally have availability for online lessons but this is limited. Please get in touch if you are interested in this option.
DO YOU HAVE TO SIGN UP FOR A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF LESSONS? - The lessons are on a pay as you go basis, you do not have to pay upfront for a set amount of lessons.
DO YOU TEACH ALL AGES? - From experience 7 is a good age to start considering drum lessons, by this point usually comfortable reaching all parts of the drum kit etc. That said, some might start earlier - natural talent knows no age! For older learners there is no limit; It’s never too late to learn if it’s something you’ve always wanted to do!
DO YOU OFFER TRIAL/TASTER LESSONS? - As you are not locked in for any period of time or lesson amount you can book a lesson, see how you get on, and decide if you want to continue from there. But all lessons are charged at the standard lesson rate
Gift Vouchers
DO YOU OFFER LESSON VOUCHERS FOR GIFTS? - Yes! Ideal for birthday’s, Christmas, or to treat someone you know. A great gift for a keen drummer that might enjoy a lesson or someone you know that’s always wanted to have a go. Please contact me directly for vouchers.
Graded Exams
WHAT GRADING DO YOU TEACH? - I can offer students the option to take graded drum kit and snare drum exams through Trinity College London, these include the Classical & jazz or Rock & Pop syllabus.
Travel
IS THERE A BUS/TRAIN STATION NEAR THE STUDIO? - Unfortunately being situated just outside Colchester, there is not a direct or reliable bus service that runs currently. We recommend making your way via car/cycle.
Other
I DON’T OWN A DRUM KIT? - When starting out although ideal it is not completely necessary to have your own drum kit. It’s a big investment in terms of cost and house space! You might want to try a few lessons before you commit to a drum kit. There are ways to practice initially without owning your own drum kit, but at some point in order to progress students will need their own drum kit to be able to build up skills outside of lessons too.
DO I NEED TO READ DRUM MUSIC? - It would be impossible to deliver the lessons without student’s being required to read drum notation at points. Some people find the idea of reading daunting, but it’s my job to help break these things down with all students being able to read in no time at all!
